Will never be able to forgive Pragya Thakur for her Godse remark: PM Modi

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said he will “never be able to forgive” party leader Pragya Singh Thakur for her remarks glorifying Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi.
“The remarks made about Gandhiji or Nathuram Godse are very bad and very wrong for society. She has sought an apology but I would never be able to forgive her fully,” PM said in an interview to a TV channel.
Hinting at a tough party action against Pragya, PM Modi said such leaders will have to think 100 times before making such statements in future.
Pragya Thakur, who is the BJP candidate from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat, had on Thursday said, “Nathuram Godse was a deshbhakt (patriot), he is and will remain a deshbhakt. Those calling him a terrorist should instead look at themselves. They will be given a befitting reply in this election.”
The BJP had immediately distanced itself from her remarks and asked her to tender an apology. Two more BJP leaders, who made controversial statements over Godse, also earned the party’s ire.
BJP president Amit Shah came out strongly against their remarks and said the party has taken serious note of their statements, which are against the party’s ideology.

Amit Shah has asked the party’s disciplinary committee to submit a report on the issue in 10 days for further action.
In a series of tweets, he said the remarks made by Hegde, Thakur and Nalin Kateel are against the BJP’s ideology. Shah also said these comments were their personal statements and had no link with the party.
