“Elections in the Pune district are in two phases — on April 23 in the Pune and Baramati parliamentary constituencies and on April 29 in the Maval and Shirur parliamentary constituencies — and the last dates of voter registrations will be March 25 and March 30 respectively,” they said. The electoral rolls will be finalized on April 10 and April 14.
Till now, the election website for the state has received nearly 12 lakh applications and roughly 7 lakh of them are for new voter registrations, said the officials. The officials must now clear all the applications received — online as well as offline — before the cut-off date for each election phase.
As Maharashtra will have the Lok Sabha polls in four phases, voter registration for the first two phases has already closed. The first two phases of elections cover the northern and eastern parts of the state. Officials said the last dates for voter registrations in northern Maharashtra regions were March 15 and March 16 respectively.
Election officials had expected about 25lakh new voter registrations and had accordingly made polling arrangements. They have assigned 96,000 polling booths in the state and have reserved 1.35 lakh machines.
Meanwhile, many citizens are still awaiting a response from the election office for confirmation. “We have applied, but we are yet to get a confirmation. Hopefully, our names will be confirmed,” said Ambalika J who has shifted to Pune with her husband.
