In his campaign, Appadurai relied on the sentiments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami as much as the popularity of TTV Dhinakaran. “Modi’s policies such as GST and demonetisation have affected people very much. The price of essential commodities has gone up,” he said in his campaign.
“Nothing noteworthy have been done in the past five years. People need a change,” he told TOI. Speaking about the response the party has got from the public, Appadurai said there was good response among youngsters and the public alike because of Dhinakaran. “Even in rural areas people seem to recognize the party,” he said.
On the reach of ‘gift box’ symbol, Appadurai said as there was last-minute confusion in offering a symbol for the party, the symbol has gained popularity. “More than the symbol, people would vote for Dhinakaran,” he said.
Members of the party also took out a two-wheeler rally in several areas, including Saibaba Colony and Venkitapuram.
