PM Narendra Modi, Sushil Modi slam Rahul Gandhi for ‘Modis thief’ remark | India News

RAIPUR/ PATNA: PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday accused Congress president Rahul Gandhi of insulting the Sahu community with his campaign remark “why do all thieves have Modi in their names”. In Patna, Bihar deputy CM and BJP veteran Sushil Modi said he will file a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi on Thursday for the comment.

PM Modi at election meetings in Korba and Bhatapara on Tuesday said, “This shows the narrow mindset of Congress. If people of Chhattisgarh’s Sahu community were in Gujarat, they would have been known as Modis,” “Sahu community members are known as Rathore in Rajasthan and Vanniar in the south. Does it mean all Modis are ‘chors’? Is it befitting to use such language?”

Chhattisgarh’s OBC Sahu community is politically powerful and has a significant population in the state’s central plains region. “Remarks such as ‘Modi chor hai’ are made just for the sake of hearing applause,” he said, reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s swipe.

Rahul, who has already annoyed BJP with his ‘chowkidar chor hai’ jibe over alleged irregularities in the Rafale deal, asked audiences at rallies in Karnataka’s Kolar on April 13 and in Maharashtra’s Nanded on Monday, “Why do all thieves have Modi in their names whether it is Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi or Narendra Modi?”

Sushil Modi reacted on Tuesday to say he will file a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi on Thursday for the comment. District courts in Bihar are closed for Lord Mahavir’s birth anniversary on Wednesday. “Hence, I will file the case on Thursday,” SuMo said. Rahul had referred to fugitive businessman Nirav Modi and former IPL chairman Lalit Modi in his comment.
