At a press meet on Tuesday, Divya said there were 1,610 polling stations, including 121 vulnerable ones, in the constituency, which includes six assembly segments. “With adequate control units, any contingencies could be handled effectively in real time basis,” she said.
Out of 6 assembly segments, three are in the Nigiris district. “Out of 121 sensitive polling booths, 77 are in the Nilgiris. Chokkanalli in the district is identified as a critical polling booth,” she said.
“With web-streaming, videos and still cameras in place, 7,786 officials have been deputed for the election work. Also, 564 wheel chairs are in place at various polling booths to facilitate physically challenged voters,” she said.
On security front, about 1,500 police personnel had been deployed in the Nilgiris district on election duty, Nilgiris superintendent of police D Shanmuga Priya said. “Polling booths in the state border areas and inside forest are given adequate security and security is beefed up at 16 checkposts in the district,” she said.
A total of Rs 3.74 crore had been confiscated by the flying squads in the district alone, she added.
The constituency has 13,65,608 voters of which 5,69,892 are from the district.
The other three assembly segements are Mettupalayam, Avinashi and Bhavanisagar.
