Nagabhushan Reddy, a landlord in Maragondanahalli village, near Hennur, had filed a theft case with Avalahalli police. Nagabhushan alleged that a miscreant had stolen gold and cash from his house on March 28, when his family was busy performing the final rites of his grandmother. The family members filed a complaint on April 4 .
Ram Nivas Sepat, superintendent of police (Bengaluru Rural), formed a special team after he learnt that the district police had failed to crack nine similar cases .
The team headed by Sajeeth VJ, additional superintendent of police, verified CCTV footage from areas around Nagabhushan’s house and zeroed in on a motorbike. Police traced the accused in Ramachandrapura with the help of the vehicle’s registration number. “We arrested Muniraju on April 12 and recovered 850 grams of jewellery and a bike worth Rs 26.7 lakh from him,” said Sepat.
