As per the model code of conduct, “buses of state road transport corporation, buses owned by municipal corporation and other government-owned vehicles shall not be used for display of political advertisements during the period when the model code of conduct is in force”. Chief electoral officer (CEO) Teeka Ram Meena had issued directive to state district collectors that all such ads should be brought down.
The advertisement on LDF government’s 1000 days in office was affixed on 5,000 KSRTC buses for which the corporation was paid Rs 1 crore. The ad had chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s face and the phrase ‘Onnanu Nammal, Onnamathanu Keralam’ (We are one, Kerala is No. 1). The contract was to display the ads till March 20.
The CEO has also written to chief secretary Tom Jose to remove all references of ministers, politicians and political parties from central or state government websites.
Meanwhile, the cops have also woken up to the election mood. A sensitisation programme for police officials was convened by the state police chief Loknath Behera on Saturday. The meeting was undertaken with a view to ensure fool-proof security mechanism when they escort VIPs during elections.
