“Ask your spouse to exercise his franchise. If he votes for the NDA candidate, feed him well. If he doesn’t, keep him hungry for the day,” Nitish told the women in the audience at Andharathari in Jhanjharpur Lok Sabha constituency.
There is likely to be a triangular contest in Jhanjharpur among Ram Preet Mandal of JD(U), Gulab Yadav of RJD and former Union minister Devendra Prasad Yadav as independent. BJP’s Birendra Chaudhary had won the seat in 2014, but it was ceded to JD(U) under the seat-sharing arrangements among the NDA partners. After RJD ignored Mangani Lal Mandal and fielded Jhanjharpur MLA Gulab from this seat, the former MP joined JD(U).
Nitish claimed that PM Narendra Modi’s deft handling of internal and external challenges, including that of the vexed problem of terrorism, has boosted his personal stock among the voters besides bringing international accolades for his stewardship of the country.
Targeting the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan, the CM reminded the people of the “dark days” of Lalu-Rabri regime and enumerated the various developmental works done by his government. Asking for wages for the works done by him by way of voting for Ram Preet, he decried the attempts by the constituents of Grand Alliance to come to power by dividing the society in the name of caste and community. “Their sole aim is to get power and loot the exchequer,” he alleged.
