In net after three years: Interstate gangster wanted for 11 murders, spate of carjackings and rape | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: Within just three years of entering the crime world, notorious interstate gangster Vijay Farmana had built a fairly deadly profile. Wanted in 11 murders, including three “triple murders”, carjacking, rape and attempted murders, police from Delhi and adjoining states were hot on his trail. His crime run finally ended with his arrest on Thursday. He had a reward of Rs 1.1 lakh on his head.
In March 2016, Farmana and his gang abducted three youths from MIT Rohtak, shot them and dumped their bodies in Gang Nahar in Sonipat. They suspected that the youths were aligned with their rivals. Nine months later, on December 8, the gang killed three former business partners of an associate for not returning money.

Among the deceased were Rajesh Jani, a liquor businessman, Naresh, a gym trainer, and Gulab, a Kabaddi player. The gang intercepted the trio and riddled their Toyota Fortuner with around 60 rounds in five minutes. Four others were also injured in the firing.
In February 2017, Farmana and his men abducted three rivals, shot them and dumped their bodies in a canal in Gohana City. They suspected that one of rivals, Sandeep Badwasani, was behind the murder of their associate, Sanjay. They got a cop from Haryana Police to call the trio to his house for a party and killed them.
What got Delhi police officers worried was his spate of carjackings in Vasant Kunj, Saket, IGI Airport and NH-8 almost every month. Farmana would stop SUVs, dump the driver at an isolated spot and flee with the vehicle.
DCP (Crime Branch) Ram Gopal Naik said the operation to nab Farmana was conducted by a special unit called STARS (Special Team for Active Robbers and Snatchers) led by ACP Shweta Chauhan and inspector Gagan Bhaskar. This team was working on carjacking cases reported from around malls in south and southwest Delhi.
The team got a tip-off about a huge contract accepted by Farmana and his men last week. They had to kill a politician in Northeast for a supari of Rs one crore and a Ford Endeavour. The team deployed sources in neighbouring states and mounted technical surveillance to develop intelligence on the gang. On May 15, they got to know that Farmana was hiding at his girlfriend’s house in Lucknow.
The policemen rushed to Gomti Nagar and surrounded the house. He was asked to surrender, but he tried to shoot his way out. However, he was soon arrested. He is being interrogated to know the location of his gang members. His interrogation also revealed that he had assaulted and raped his supposed lover in outer Delhi’s Begampur in 2015.
