After the announcement of Rampal’s candidature from Ambala seat, party workers and people started gathering at his house in Yamunanagar. Rampal – who works at Ballarpur Paper Mill industries – joined politics in 1986-87. He joined the Congress party, but in 1990 under the leadership of former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala joined the INLD.
In 1994, he was elected councilor for the first time in Yamunanagar Municipal Council. In 2000, his wife became a councilor. 2005 onwards, Rampal consecutively remained a councilor and in 2013 became the deputy mayor of Yamunanagar MC.
While talking to media, Rampal said, “In 2016, I was appointed president of the SC cell in Yamunanagar district and since then I have been doing my duty with dedication. INLD is a party which uplifts the poor and gives them a place to move further. I give credit for my nomination to Chaudhary Dilbagh Singh who has always stood by me and I am happy after my name appeared in the panel. I would be starting my election campaign from Yamunanagar and according to the instructions given by the party.”
