NEW DELHI: Another overcast morning greeted the city as a pleasant day was witnessed on Thursday with the maximum temperature clocking 36.7 degree Celsius — three notches below normal — similar to Wednesday’s 35.7 degrees C.

Because of the western disturbance in north India, showers were reported in the early hours. At Safdurjung, considered base for Delhi, till 8.30am, 2.2mm rainfall was recorded.
According to the IMD bulletin on Thursday, the western disturbance is likely to cause fairly widespread to widespread precipitation over western Himalayan region and isolated to scattered rain or thundershowers over adjoining plains during the next 2-3 days.
On Friday, too, generally cloudy skies are expected and thunderstorm with very light rain accompanied with lightning with gusty winds (speed 30-40 km per hour) might also be witnessed. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 36 and 23 degree Celsius respectively.
According to a MeT official, similar weather conditions can be expected for the next two days.
In terms of pollution, the air quality stayed in the moderate level as the AQI clocked 187.
According to SAFAR, a body under the Union environment ministry, the overall air quality in Delhi is in the ‘moderate’ category and the recurrent western disturbances, two of which are currently active, are likely to cause fairly widespread precipitation.
“This is going to influence Delhi’s air quality positively. Moderate long-range transport of dust from west Rajasthan is continuing,” a SAFAR report said on Thursday.
Data according to CPCB’s central control room, meanwhile, showed NCR’s average PM10 readings were more than two times the safe standard on Thursday.
