RAJKOT: The election commission (EC) on Tuesday issued notices to both BJP and the Congress candidates of Porbandar LS constituency for furnishing less expenses in the account produced before the expenditure observer than actuality. Election expenses is limited to Rs 70 lakh per candidate as per election commission guidelines.

The EC has appointed a team of expense observers to monitor each candidates’ poll expenditures. According to a statement issued by Porbandar district election officer, Congress candidate Lalit Vasoya showed expenditure of Rs 7.41 lakh, while the entry in the shadow register maintained by the EC team registered expenses totalling up to Rs 10.27 lakh.

In the same way, even BJP candidate Ramesh Dhaduk showed expenses of Rs 3.94 lakh before the expenses observer, while their own register showed Rs 24.53 lakh as the actual expense incurred by him.

The Porbandar district election officer’s notice seeks explanation for difference in the expenses shown and actual registered, failing which candidates will have to face action.
