He is trying to convince people in his favour through social media. He also convinces his customers on a regular basis.
A resident of Samrala Chowk area, Ravinder lives with his mother Kuldeep Kaur. His father died when he was in Class IX.
“My father died when I was in Class IX and I had to leave my studies and set up a burger vend in the Model Town extension near Baba Deep Singh Gurdwara, to meet the expenses. I have been into this business for the past 12 years,” he said.
Sharing about his personal life, he said: “I wanted to become an advocate, but my father died. I have seven sisters and three of them were unmarried at that time. So I had to work in order to get them married.”
Regarding his poll promises, he said: “I will eradicate drug menace from the state and solve the age old problem of pollution at the Buddha Nullah.”
He said he was concerned about the safety of sewer men, who are forced to enter the sewerage manholes for cleaning.
He said he would raise voice for them in the parliament. He claimed that he would also take up the issue of vending zones for rehabilitation of roadside vendors.
“Politicians are least bothered about public issues, but if people give me a chance to serve them, I can perform better,” he said.
When asked whether he was afraid of candidates from established political parties, he said: “One can register victory only with the support of citizens. I am concentrating on public support and nothing else. If people want to get rid of the current issues, they should support me.”
He said he do not have money to put posters or banners on roads, therefore, he had chosen social media for reaching out to the masses, especially the youth.
He said social media was a strong means to reach out to public from far off places like Jagraon, Mullanpur etc to enjoy his burger and that he could convince them to support him and vote for him.
Ravinder is famous among children as he offers free burgers to children below 10 years of age. He also recites “Japuji sahib prayer”. It is his way to promote Sikh religion among children. Recently, the MC had lifted his vend from the market and he also sat on dharna outside the MC office. His mother has also contested election from ward number 19 as an independent candidate.
