MUMBAI: This weekend, the Mirchi Music Awards will reward the creative minds that crafted the most tuneful songs this past year. The awards ceremony will take place at the [email protected], SVP Stadium, Worli, at 7pm on Saturday, February 16.

Celebrities from the world of cinema including Juhi Chawla, Anil Kapoor, Rohit Shetty, Sunny Leone and Kirti Kulhari are expected to attend. The music industry will be represented by Kavita Krishnamurti, Shankar Mahadevan, Shreya Ghoshal, Pritam, Arijit Singh, Amit Trivedi and Papon.

The awards ceremony is punctuated with powerhouse performances by Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, Neha Kakkar, Badshah, Aastha Gill, Meet Bros, Jyotica Tangri, Bhoomi Trivedi, Sukriti Kakar, Prakriti Kakar, Nakash Aziz and Ash King, among others. Actor Ranveer Singh and singer Siddharth Mahadevan are also rehearsing for special acts, which will be recorded in advance.

Songs that have captivated audience attention in recent months are at the head of the nominations list. Compositions like Ae watan’ and ‘Dilbaro’ from ‘Raazi’, ‘Ghoomar’ from ‘Padmaavat’ and ‘Tareefan’ from ‘Veere Di Wedding’ are vying for top honours with hit numbers from ‘Kedarnath’, ‘Manmarziyaan’ and ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’.

Arijit Singh, Shivam Pathak and Ajay Gogavale are in the fray in the best male singer category while the female contenders are Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal, Harshdeep Kaur and Neeti Mohan. Lyricists Gulzar, Irshad Kamil, AM Turaz and Kumaar present a challenging choice to judges in the best lyricist category. Music directors Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Amit Trivedi and Ajay-Atul contend for best composer.
