700 bikers on food delivery trips fined for traffic offences | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: At least 700 two-wheeler riders of food delivery applications were slapped with a penalty in the last week for flouting traffic rules like jumping signals, speeding, riding on footpath and driving without helmets. The police been sent their details to the Regional Transport Office (RTO), asking it to cancel the licence of repeat offenders.

The traffic police, on their part, have asked app-based food delivery platforms to get such riders off their delivery lists.

A week before the drive started, the traffic police had met representatives of delivery companies a week ago and issued an advisory on traffic rules.

On the first day of the drive, 174 two-wheeler riders were penalized. “Licences of repeated offenders will be cancelled and food delivery platforms have been told to get them off their delivery service,” joint commissioner of police (traffic) Amitesh Kumar told TOI on Saturday.

The accused were penalized for illegal parking, riding without helmets, jumping signals, speeding, rash driving, driving in the no-entry zone among others. “Action was taken after repeated complaints of delivery boys riding on footpaths in a rush to deliver food parcels within the deadline,” said a traffic officer.
