The four underpasses would be constructed at a distance of 2.6km, 10.3km, 16.4km and 19.4km from the Mahamaya flyover. Though the tenders for underpass 1, 2 and 4 have been issued, Noida Authority is yet to issue the tender for the third underpass.
According to officials, the underpasses will smoothen traffic movement on the stretch which witness a huge flow of traffic during peak hours as it houses several business and commercial establishments on one side and residential sectors and villages on the other side.
The general manager of Noida Authority, KK Agarwal, told TOI that though this stretch already has three underpasses, they are not being able to cater to the existing traffic flow on the stretch resulting in snarls during the morning and evening rush hours.
The Noida Authority had conducted a preliminary study on the stretch that revealed that the road witnesses a traffic flow of around 1,000 vehicles on a regular basis.
“The opening of the Aqua Line has also added to the traffic flow on this stretch. As most of the companies are housed near Noida Expressway, office-goers use this road to travel to or return from the metro station,” Agarwal said.
According to Noida Authority officials, the construction of the underpasses will be completed within 18 months and the contractor would use box push technique to ensure that there is no hindrance to traffic on Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.
