19 polling booths to be shifted | Thiruvananthapuram News


Thiruvananthapuram: The election commission has given approval for shifting 19 polling booths in the district, spread across two parliament constituencies – Thiruvananthapuram and Attingal, to new premises, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

The decision to shift the booths was taken owing to damage to the old buildings, which had been housing these booths, or those dismantled for renovation, according to an official statement issued by district collector and election officer K Vasuki here on Tuesday.

Polling booths are being shifted in eight assembly constituencies. They include booth number 149 in Attingal assembly constituency, which would be shifted from Attingal Municipal Town Hall to municipal library, and booth number 153 in Nedumangad constituency from Kavummoola Anganvadi to Karipur Government High School.

Two booths in Vattiyoorkavu constituency, which are being shifted include booth number 50 and 51. Both will be shifted from panchayat health centre to the hall on Manalayalm St Antony’s Church premises.

As many as five booths are being shifted in Nemom constituency. Booths 84, 85, 86 and 87 at Kalady Government High School will be shifted to Vanitha Samajam Hall at 563rd NSS Karayogam, while booth 150 will be shifted from Nemom sub-registrar’s office to Swaraj Library.

In Parassala constituency, booth 122 earlier housed at Parasuvekkal service cooperative bank will be shifted to Madathuvilakam Anganvadi (No.174), while booth 10 at Vilavoorkal agriculture office in Kattakkadda assembly constituency will be shifted to the new building of the agriculture office.

Seven booths are being shifted to new premises in Kovalam constituency. Booths 1 and 13 at Muttakkadu LMS primary school are being shifted to Muttakkadu CSI Parish Hall, and booths 76, 77 and 78 at K V Lower Primary School to Thembamoottam Anganvadi, government institute of fashion designing and family health sub-centre respectively. Booth 160 at Poothamkode LP School will be shifted to Kanjiramkulam PWD office, while booth 165 at Kanjiramkulam PWD office will be shifted to Kanjiramkulam government high school.

In Neyyattinkara constituency, booth 54 at Irumbil NSS Karayogam will be shifted to Irumbil Anganwadi (No.23). Besides, 40 other polling booths across nine assembly constituencies in the district will be shifted to different buildings on the premises of earlier booth centres, the district election officer informed.
