The health department drew up a list of 15 positive swine flu cases in the city on Wednesday pushing the tally of persons affected with the contagious disease up to 93 this year, and as many as 65 cases in the 13 days of February alone.
While there have been no casualties in the city due to the virus, cases have been on a rise since the onset of February. In a bid to arrest the spread of infection, the health department has decided to boost its awareness drive by deploying staff at malls and involving schools from Thursday.
Among the cases reported on Wednesday, there were three children, seven women and two senior citizens. Of these, three patients were admitted in private health facilities.
Moreover, six cases from other districts were also reported by the health department since they had either tested positive in city or were admitted to a private hospital in Lucknow.
Teams of health workers to spread word in malls
Two health care workers each have been deployed at nine malls in city for seven hours. They will distribute pamphlets on influenza and spread awareness about precautions, symptoms and action to be taken,” said in charge of vector-borne diseases unit, Dr K P Tripathi.
Nodal teachers appointed at various schools have also been asked to carry out swine flu awareness during assemblies, he added.
