15-member panel to assist SIT in probe | Kanpur News


KANPUR: All India Riot Victims Relief Committee, 1984, has formed a 15-member panel on Wednesday which apart from assisting the SIT, will also identify families and individual whose kin were killed during riots on November 1, 1984 morning following assassination of the then PM Indira Gandhi on October 31.

“We will visit localities to identify family members of the 127 Sikhs who were killed in the riots. Besides ensuring their security, we will convince them to become a witness and adduce evidence”, said Kuldeep Singh Bhogal, president of All India Riot Victim Relief Committee. Kanwaljeet Singh Manu, a senior member of the riot victims relief committee, who is also president of Yuva Sikh Morcha said, “Now, time has come that 1984 riot victims should come forward and give their cooperation to the SIT. They should give evidence, if any, so that the culprits who are roaming scot free, can be be nailed down and awarded capital punishment,” he said.
