PATNA: The Patna district administration has planned to set up at least 13 green polling stations in the city where the voters will be provided saplings for free. The two Lok Sabha constituencies in Patna district – Patna Sahib and Pataliputra – will go to the polls on May 19. Officials said the move is aimed at promoting cleanliness and afforestation, and discouraging the use of plastic bags.
“The green polling stations will be adorned with painted plant pots and biodegradable items. Instead of water coolers, we will use earthen pots and ‘kulhad’ (earthen cup) at these polling stations. These booths will be adorned with several plants,” said Patna DM-cum-district electoral officer Kumar Ravi.
The DM said the voters would be provided one sapling for free and encouraged to nurture the plant. “Saplings of fruit plants and ornamental species will be sourced by the Patna Municipal Corporation from nurseries for distribution among voters on the polling day,” Ravi said.
The other attractions at these polling stations will be selfie zone, rangolis and messages to promote green cover, water conservation and cleanliness.
Two green polling booths each will be set up in New Capital circle (booth numbers 332 and 333) and Bankipore (booth numbers 159 and 160), four in Patna City (booth numbers 84, 85, 86 and 87) and five in Kankerbagh (booth numbers 153, 154, 155, 156 and 157).
